The Technology Transfer Office (TTO) at the San Diego State University protects and commercializes the intellectual property developed by the faculty, staff, and students of our campus. We accomplish this through several different activities while ensuring that SDSU acts within the context of the federal and state laws while achieving its educational and research missions. For an overview of the TTO's mission, visit the About Us page.
The TTO works with faculty to understand what their research has developed and the appropriate types of IP to utilize. If a faculty has developed software, it is likely that copyrights, patents and trademarks will be used. Trade secrets might be useful for a research tool. It all depends on many factors. The TTO is here to help by listening to the faculty’s needs and plans, then developing a strategy that addresses those needs and future plans.
